A bit of an understated title, to be honest.
First off, Cora. Cora's rough year continues - she started limping a week or two ago, then I noticed a few bloody spots on the top of her paw, then she started bleeding around her eye again...all reoccurences of symptoms she went thru last year, well before being diagnosed with the demodex.
So Cora wound up on meds over the long weekend, antibiotics designed to get some of her swelling and fever down, and they took a toll - in fact, on Monday, I actually couldn't get her to stir - she was just laying there, not moving - not like Cora at all, if you know her. I was seriously worried, and was planning to get her back to the vet for more attention on the Tuesday.
Luckily, though, she bounced back - ran for the first time in a while, did her patented flying leap off the deck that is being oh so good to the grass, and progressed over the course of the week to the point where she's pretty much back to normal at this point. On Friday, she went in for a followup, and while all blood tests were good, the demodex are back. So it's another round of poison starting Monday. At least we know it works for her, and what's been causing everything. I had to give her a special skin bath on Friday, letting the shampoo work for ten minutes....practically tackling her to keep her in the tub...not fun. She doesn't like baths, and I needed a shower when it was all over.
So that brings us to yesterday, possibly the craziest day we've had in a while.
So, Maya had her squash lesson, and I was supposed to play a game at the same time, but I was in some pain, and it was actually fortunate that both Jeff and E cancelled on me. It was nice to sit and watch Maya's progress, and I made it over to the Superstore to pick up a few things at the same time. My pain? There was an incident in a little collision while I was baserunning, I did my best to avoid running into the 67 year old 3B, and to repay me, while I was trying to get back to the bag, he whaps me in the top of the head with the ball, and steps right onto my bag. I think I know where my cup is - perhaps it's time to think about wearing it again....
While Maya and I were off doing this, Gabi was taking Chloe to the West Rouge Spring Carnival, to show support and steal ideas, followed up by her swimming lesson. We all met up back at the house, but not before Maya and I hit a yard sale in the neighbourhood, where we had a couple of major scores. First off, Maya is tremendously excited for her new Noma Speedracer, which is possibly the coolest toboggan ever made. So excited, actually, that she was wishing for snow yesterday. Secondly, I picked up a matted Star Wars poster for the bar. While most of my bar paraphernelia reflects my baseball geekdom, I am still a scifi geek as well, so I thought it was fitting. I wanted the Pulp Fiction poster too, but since wall space is limited and it is, as well as my mancave, the kid's playroom too, I had to think about appropriateness. $7 for both...gotta love yard sales...
Then it was off to Brampton, where Terry's school was doing their spring fling and we wanted to show our support. We couldn't stay long, but we hit the book sale, and some of the inflateables, and Chloe ate popcorn and the rest of us grabbed a slice for lunch. One of my former students was there making balloon animals, and he's pretty good at it, also nice to catch up with.
Finally, we left the fair and headed to the Hammer, for the 1st birthday party of our cousin Alex. It was a good time, as we saw many of the Redhead Moroses, most of the Sawdyk-Coverdale clan, and it was absolutely hilarious watching many of the young couples I remember from Trish's wedding, suddenly running around with lots of babies. It was like Trish started a trend amongst her friends, because while it seemed like Alex was the oldest, I have a feeling they'll be attending lots and lots of first birthday parties in the near future.
So after all this, Chloe was, to put it mildly, exhausted, and Maya was tired too, although she'll never admit it. We had a full-on whine and cheese party coming from the back seat, so rather than just push straight thru, we decided to make several stops to break up the ride. We went to Bow Valley court to show the girls Vera and Ted's old house, which definitely brought back major flashbacks for me. We decided to cruise the beach to find a spot for dinner, and were a little taken aback by the crowds, when we decided to go somewhere we all love, Pho Metro, which continues to be the best Vietnamese in the east end by far.
Following that, it was home and pretty much to bed for all of us, although the dog still had lots of energy. Needless to say she was the only one. I played online scrabble for a while, as I'm prone to doing, but otherwise sleep claimed us all rather early.
Interesting development of the day - while driving from Brampton to Hamilton, Ryan Marshall friended me on Facebook. For more recent readers, Ryan was probably my best friend in university who I'd lost touch with for quite a while, so it was really nice to hear from him, and I'm looking forward to catching up.
So today was gonna be yardwork (too wet), laundry (machine's already humming), and perhaps pushing towards a yardsale of our own next weekend (less likely by the minute), and maybe, just maybe, I'll write a report card or two....
