Leading by Example

So yesterday I got another object lesson in why I hate the Calcutta tournament format. I got to the club a bit early, so hit for about half an hour with Raj, who is much better than me, but an excellent warmup and a nice guy. Then I did nothing for about the next 90 minutes, until I creaked my way onto the court for a match with a 15 year old.

It did not go well - but I lost it with my serve, as I hit it out at least 6 times. I can get away with that in league, but not in rally point tourneys.

Finally, an hour later and feeling even creakier, I lost to Magder and went home feeling very bitter. I understand what George says about stopping and starting - I need to be a continuous player, then stop for the night.

So Chloe was quite ill last night, and Tina could only come over for the morning, so I decided to take the afternoon off to hang out with my poor sickie. Yes, she is sick again. She is much better, but I can see why keeping her home was probably best - we're definitely slowing towards naptime at this point.

At any rate, I was downstairs with her, and took SI into the bathroom to check out the article on Freddie Freeman, and Chloe joined me, very excited by the baseball magazine. I got her to sit on the potty and make a pee. She then left the room, then came back in looking rather strange. To this point, she had always waited to have a diaper on to have a #2, although pee has been pretty good. I told her to sit down again, and was thrilled (this will stop being thrilling soon, I figure, but I can see the end of the diaper expense line on the budget in the very near future) when she had her first really successful #2 on the potty!

As we were washing hands and cleaning up, and after much celebrating, I got a "Yay Daddy!" back. Been a long time since I've had that particular activity celebrated at all - maybe FAO Schwartz in NYC.

On the plus side, I'm on top of most things at work, which is a fabulous feeling. I'm never letting myself get to that point again - never ever. Catching up is a lot harder than just keeping up, which is hard in itself. I have a few things to mark, but nothing major. Having a laptop that works well that I carry nearly everywhere with me helps, although I'm deeply missing the net access that my phone provided. I did get 17 emails from Rogers overnight letting me know that my phone order is in process, and hasn't been shipped yet. Nice of them to take that much care, isn't it?
