So I ordered some Chinese Broccoli tonight, my attempt at a token veggie on the table as my Mom, Chloe and I sucked back some Hargow, squid and rice noodles.
Not at all what I was expecting. The last time I ordered Chinese broccoli there was some resemblance to broccoli, maybe kind of like tenders. This was more like bok choy. I liked it, but I was the only one who did.
Now, Chloe and I were on our own tonight as Gabi and Maya had headed on down to the Rogers Centre to see Mickey's Rockin Road Show. I had been thinking of ways to weasel out of this since we first got the tickets - definitely not at all high on my priority list, to say the least. At first Nonna was gonna go in my place with the girls while I was hosting the blowout here, but it went to Magder's instead, putting me back on the spot. Then, thankfully, Chloe got sick on Thursday night.
This was the first real vomiting session of Chloe's that I was kind of thankful for. First, it wasn't on me, or the dog, who proved very difficult to deodorize the last time she got puked on. No, Tina took the brunt of it, along with our carpet, and unfortunately, the cloth couch. Not the leather one sitting right beside it, of course. Even the middle of the night, in our bed, puking session on Thursday wasn't enough to dampen my enthusiasm for this mini-illness, because Chloe never got too bad, and Gabi decided that she wasn't well enough to go see Mickey.
Strangely enough, I volunteered to stay home with Chloe, so Gabi phoned up Claudine and she and Emma joined them downtown. Apparently this turned into quite an adventure of missed GO trains and other unexpected surprises, but I'll leave that one for Gabi to tell.
I had a lovely restful time after getting Chloe down for nap, cleaning up the kitchen and puttering with the laundry, then I called up my mom. For some reason, knowing that I had tons of points left, having not eaten breakfast, a light lunch, played squash and shoveled snow for an hour, I was craving...hargow. Big time. My mom is seldom difficult to talk into going for hargow, so off we went - once Chloe woke up, anyways, which is a challenge in itself sometimes.
However, Chloe was in a lovely mood, even enduring the 20-25 minute wait for our food, even the bowl of steamed rice we wanted for her, and the food was fabulous, with the possible exception of the Chinese broccoli, which was merely passable for me, and apparently inedible to the other members of my little entourage. We then went back to my parent's house, where my mom graciously played with Chloe while I hung out with my Dad watching the Ravens lose to the Steelers, or at least the last 10 minutes of the game. Which take an hour, as usual. I had a nice time - I love his new TV, but getting a 46 inch and not getting an HD box is something I think he should remedy sooner rather than later. I offered to help him set it all up, hell, even to go shopping for what he needs with him. That's the kind of shopping I love to do.
So I went to squash in the snow this morning (the drive, not the squash), then, since Maya's squash and piano were both cancelled and we were in dire straits in many grocery categories, I went to Costco. First time the gas lineup was reasonable, and the store was positively civilized - for a Saturday. I even got a new membership card, as my old one was no longer scanning. Not a surprise, since I've probably had it since 1999 or so. I leisurely walked the aisles, and loaded up my cart to well over the $200 mark, all with groceries - not a single non-food item, which is unusual as well.
So I got it all home, and was unloading from the garage to the front hall, where the 3 girls were helping to put it all away, and Chloe came up with the gem of the day. "You have a lot of food in your car, Daddy!" She wasn't kidding.
So I'm doing very well on WW with the new iPhone app. It's a tracker I rarely put down, and with the internet connectivity to figure out points values instantly, it's very handy too. I haven't not lost at least two pounds every week since I've been using it, and I've been religious with my tracking. Past experience shows me that tracking is the key - it keeps me honest. Nice double negative there - but I can't think of a better way to say that right now....
Now the only thing that remains really out of control, now that I spent most of Friday getting the ski trip all balanced out (a transcription error on the spreadsheet took an hour and a half to find), is my marking. I've gotten some of it done, but it's the kind of thing that's gotten so big that I don't know where to start, literally. I guess the logical conclusion is if you don't start somewhere, you remain nowhere. So I guess as soon as the kids are asleep, I'm going downstairs to get organized. It's too bad there's nothing left online for me to mark. That's the fun stuff.
